Nature of the service and liability
ShapeLab is a free calculator to help prepare a homemade board project: wingfoil, windfoil, parawing, dockstart / pumping, surf, windsurf, SUP or any other composite board. The quantities, weights, areas and budgets shown are indicative estimates, calculated from approximations.
Until you enter your own prices, the budget is shown as typical price ranges, set on October 20, 2026: they are ballpark figures, not price lists. Always check the price, availability and shipping costs directly with the supplier before buying.
This calculator does not validate the design, strength or safety of a board. Building and using a board, and handling resins and fibers, are at the user’s own risk; the user must follow the manufacturers’ safety instructions. The publisher cannot be held liable for any damage arising from the use of the information on this site.
Links to third-party sites
The site contains links to material suppliers (Atuacores, Easy Composites, HP-Textiles, GONG…), given as examples. These links are neither sponsored nor affiliate links: the publisher receives no payment and is not responsible for the content of those sites. The names and trademarks mentioned belong to their respective owners.
Personal data and cookies
No trackers, no advertising, and an account only if you want one. The site uses no third-party service: fonts, styles and scripts are served from the site’s own server. The only cookie is the sign-in cookie, set only if you sign in to an account.
- Your project (dimensions, choices, shopping list, edited prices) and your language and currency choices are stored only in your browser (local storage), so you get them back on your next visit, along with the number of the last site version you saw (to show you what’s new only once). Without an account, they are never sent to the server; with an account, your projects are also saved in your account (see below). To delete them: the calculator’s “Reset” button, or clearing the site data in your browser settings. This storage is strictly necessary for the service you request and does not require consent.
- A project’s share link contains that project, encoded in the address after the “#” sign: that part is never sent to the server nor stored by the site. Anyone who has the link can open the project. The share image is created by your browser.
- The files you save or load (JSON project, CSV export) stay on your device: they are created and read directly by your browser.
- Usage counter: each time the calculator is opened, the server adds 1 to the total shown on the site (at most once a day for the same visitor). Only the totals are saved. To avoid counting the same person twice, the IP address is kept hashed, in memory only and for 24 hours at most; it is never written to disk. The counter stores nothing in your browser.
- Account (optional): if you create an account, the site’s server stores your email address, your public username, your language, the date the account was created and the date you last signed in. The address is only used to send you your sign-in codes and messages about the projects you submit; it is never shown, shared or used for marketing. Codes (valid for 10 minutes) and sessions are stored hashed. A strictly necessary sign-in cookie is set only after you sign in and expires after 30 days without a visit. Saved projects: with an account, your calculator projects (choices, dimensions, shopping list, prices, notes) are saved on the server so you get them on all your devices; only you can access them. A project you delete is erased from the server. When you sign out, they are removed from the device and stay in your account. Legal basis: your request (providing the service). Shared projects: when you submit a project, it is stored on the server (title, build choices, dimensions, shopping list with quantities, prices, suppliers and links, final cost); item notes are not sent. It is published, with your username, on the “Shared projects” page only after the publisher reviews it, and you are told by email. Members can then download its list as CSV or PDF and open it in the calculator. You can withdraw it at any time from your account. You can delete your account at any time from the My account page: everything linked to it, projects included, is erased at once. An account unused for 3 years is deleted automatically.
- Contact form: your name, email address and message are sent by email to the publisher, only to reply to you (legal basis: your request). They are not stored on the site’s server; the emails are kept in the publisher’s mailbox for the time of the exchange, and at most 3 years.
- Server logs: like any web server, the host technically records, for each visit, the IP address, the date, the requested page and the browser type. These logs are used only for the security and proper running of the site (legitimate interest), are neither used for statistics nor shared with third parties, and are deleted automatically after about 14 days.
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase and object to the processing of data about you. You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, or with the authority of your own country.
